Rhonas's History

The Cobra-headed Rhonas was the Amonkhet god of strength, both in physical superiority and mental aspects of willpower. He was killed during the events of the Hour of Devastation.

Rhonas and his sibling deities looked over the plane of Amonkhet until the day of Nicol Bolas's arrival. Despite their best efforts and fierce resistance, Rhonas fell to the might of the Elder Dragon and was rewritten alongside the soul of the plane to serve Bolas's ambitions.

Over the next century, Rhonas embraced his purpose as Amonkhet's god of Strength with his purpose of training the initiates of the plane to serve the God-Pharoah in the afterlife as well as defending Naktamun against any horrors that strayed too close to the Hekma. His trial was the third: that of Strength. This Trial tested the crop's physical capacity. It involved climbing through a wall full of poisonous thorns, whose toxins prevented spellcasting, then fighting through hordes of wild beasts and recovering the antidote on a basilisk's scale, before traveling through the jungle to Rhonas.

When the arrival of the God-Pharoah finally arrived, Rhonas was the first to arrive outside the Necropolis. Instead of the return of his lord, Rhonas was instead confronted by the monstrous forms of the three missing gods of Amonkhet. Initially attempting to speak with these Immortals, Rhonas quickly found himself in combat with the grotesque Scorpion God in what Rhonas initially thought was his own personal trial. Despite his best efforts, even seeming to gain the upper hand at one point, Rhonas discovered he was no match for his horrific opponent and was ultimately stabbed by the monster's stinger, which contained a venom strong enough to kill even him. With the last bit of his power, Rhonas hurled his staff at his opponent, transforming it into a monstrous serpent to buy his siblings precious time.

Rhonas's inert form would be taken by Bolas and converted into a God-Eternal for the invasion of Ravnica.
