Ultraman's History

The son of Shin Hayata, Shinjiro was born with unusual strength and durability. As a child, he once visited the Giant of Light Memorial with his father, the Defense Agency's Chief. It was a museum for the SSSP, Ultraman and their battles and based in the old SSSP Japan branch headquarters. While there. the two met Mitsuhiro Ide. While the two talked and Shin gave an autograph, Shinjiro was leaning dangerously over the railing and had fallen over. Ide proposed to call an ambulance, but Hayata noticed the boy was fine as he clutched his crying son. Moments later, father and son left with Shinjiro waving goodbye with his usually cheerful face. Twelve years later, Shinjiro was a typical teenager, hanging out with his friends though he noticed and had trouble controlling his superhuman strength. At home, Shinjiro and his father had started to grow distant.

One day Shinjiro and his friends came across a girl being harassed by a bully from another school and his posse. While the others did not have the heart to go and help her, Shinjiro challenged the brute, but accidentally crushed his leg. Seeing the frightened faces on everyone including his friends and the girl he saved, he ran off. That night, Shinjiro went out jumping across skyscrapers until he landed on a billboard and sat there lamenting his failure to control his strength. It then that he was confronted by a dark figure that chased him to a stadium and cornered him. Only the timely arrival of his father, who dropped out of the sky, saved him. When he questioned his father on the creature and its similarity to Ultraman, his father declared it wasn't an Ultraman, he was, referring to his son as he took off his coat and revealed his battle armor.

Hayata picked up his son and commented on how much he had grown and then explained to him the SSSP carrier helicopter was nearby and with his abilities, he could reach it. Without warning, Hayata threw his son sending him flying towards the helicopter. Aboard the helicopter, Shinjiro meets Ide once again, who had been ordered to keep Shinjiro safe and transport him away. Instead, seeing Shinjiro's frustration at being unable to do anything, Ide decides to provide him with the Ultraman Suit. Shinjiro accepts the offer and falls back into the stadium, putting the suit on as he took his father's place in fighting Bemular. After a long battle, Ide taught him to use the Spacium Beam on Bemular, who surprisingly survived the attack. Seeing Shinjiro exhausted, Bemular simply revealed his name and left, before the boy passes out.

Shinjiro later awoke in a bed, his armor gone and his body bandaged up. Hearing Ide's voice, he looked to his side only to see Ide standing by his bed with a Zettonian in a black suit sitting on a chair casually.

Later on, Ide led Shinjiro to see his father in the medical section of the base, the old warrior was in a coma but otherwise, he would survive. Ide then led Shinjiro to an all-white room where the Zettonian from before was waiting. There the alien explained he was the last Zettonian and that his name was Edo. The alien explained why there had been no alien invasion or monster attacks for the past forty years, including Earth, every space-faring civilization was part of an alliance. Upon joining this interstellar 'UN' seven years prior, aliens came to Earth and removed all of its monsters. Also when Earth contacted the Alliance council is when Bemular appeared again who is just one of the problems they face as numerous aliens had migrated to Earth. The Zettonian then asked Shinjiro to take his father's place as Ultraman.

Shinjiro did not immediately agree to the request but stated he would think about it. The next day at school Shinjiro found his friends were avoiding him in fear of his strength and later when he met up with the bully and his friends again they ran off terrified of him. Feeling rejected by everyone around him Shinjiro agreed to do test runs with his armor that night. With Ide on the radio guiding him Shinjiro trained to control his powers by helping people, Shinjiro was ordered to go to a traffic accident to help. Ide declared that the government response was too slow and that if it was a job only he could do then as 'Ultraman' he had a responsibility to help. Shotaro arrived on a highway where the driver of a fuel tanker was trapped behind the wheel. Shotaro ran towards it but found himself too slow and on Ide's suggestion used the Light Swords to propel himself. Shinjiro flew towards the tanker as its fuel caught aflame, while it seemed both where killed in the explosion Shinjiro landed safely carrying the half of the truck he cut off with the driver in it. To his surprise, the crowd around him was cheering and even the man he saved thanked him. Upon the two policemen approaching to question him, Shinjiro took off into the sky. Stopping on the roof of a skyscraper, Shinjiro took off his helmet and absorbed the whole sensation of being praised, finally feeling like he belonged somewhere.

Afterwards Shinjiro reconciled with his friends who disregarded the crushing of the bully's leg as an accident on the thug's part. He also took joy in the fame and publicity his masked persona was getting all over. Meeting up with Ide and Edo at SSSP HQ, Shin noted that he enjoyed the work he was doing with the suit and his powers and Edo asked if he was ready to be Ultraman yet. Unsure of what to say he heard as Moroboshi called Edo reporting he was ready to begin an extermination operation. Edo told him to hold it off and that 'Ultraman' would take down the target.

Shinjiro arrived outside an old warehouse where Moroboshi's team was waiting. After some talking down from Moroboshi Shinjiro took off, landing on the roof to the building. Upon entering he was shocked to see the sight of several dead victims and the alien finishing of the last one. In a fit of rage, Shinjiro punched at the Baltan-like creature only for it to jump over him and kick him in the back knocking him down. The alien landed on him and belittled him and jumped on to a platform when Shin attempted to slice him with a Spacium Blade. Shin confronted the alien about his deeds and the alien simply replied that humans were its food and fired energy blasts at him. Shin dodged them and noticed that several of the victims were young girls and boys of his age group. Enraged, even more, Shinjiro fired the Spacium Beam but unfortunately the alien dodged it and jumped out the hole in the roof. Unwilling to let him escape Shinjiro chased after him jumping from rooftop to rooftop.

Shinjiro chased the alien across several rooftops, their battle destroyed a few buildings, eventually, the pair landed in the middle of a traffic jam with Shinjiro landing on the hood of Rena Sayama, a popular idol, all the while his suit's color timer was beeping, having turned red. It was then that the alien spoke denouncing Shinjiro as 'Ultraman' and a hero. It had pointed out that it intended to leave quietly and disappear so it could continue hunting in peace, but Shinjiro forced their battle into the public endangering even more lives going against the mandate of the SSSP. The alien cast blame on Shinjiro for the current predicament the people around him faced and as Shinjiro looked around he couldn't help but feel guilty. It was then that someone called out for him, for Ultraman and he turned to see Rena Sayama in the distance who reminded him that he was fighting to protect people renewing his resolve. The alien was angered by this and fired his plasma bombs at Rena and her agent but Shinjiro moved in front of them and stopped the attack with his Light Swords. Shinjiro declared himself an Ultraman and took on the same fighting stance his father used in their battles.

The alien at first laughed at Shinjiro's statement, but when it realized it was being used it attacked at full force pushing Shinjiro into the defensive. Shinjiro ran as the alien fired a volley of plasma bombs but one of them hit and knocked him into a building. Knocked on his back, Ide called him and instructed him on how to remove his limiter. With that done he dashed out the building and sliced on the alien's arm as red energy streamed off him. The alien jumped into the air and he followed, shrugging off his attacks, backflipped and kicked the creature before finishing it off with the Spacium Beam. Shinjiro landed on a car, completely drained but proud of his accomplishment, but not as proud as when his father appeared, still in a weakened condition but out of his coma. Shin praised his son on a job well done.

Despite his achievement, at the SSSP base, Shinjiro was looking over the railing and trying to come to terms with the fact that he had killed another living being, it was the first time he had done so. Moroboshi appeared and told Shinjiro he had to accept the fact the being 'Ultraman' meant he had t eradicate any opponent he came across. For whatever reason Moroboshi took Shinjiro to a peculiar building, passing through several high tech security gates they came across an entire city that seemed to be within the building itself.

Moroboshi led Shinjiro through the city, past the market. Moroboshi told him that the city was on Earth but its location was unknown even to the SSSP. He told Shinjiro that they had come to see an information broker about two cases, the organization the Alien Adacic was connected to and the serial murders which appeared to be separate cases. Moroboshi brought Shinjiro to a gambling den where their contact was waiting. Shinjiro was told it was a fighter and initially believed it was it the large alien in the ring. As the alien fainted Moroboshi corrected him, stating that their contact was a special case in the city, the only human who could live there and refused to leave: Jack.

Sometime later Shinjiro and Moroboshi were outside the arena with Jack discussing the case. However Jack had no information to help them, he pointed to one possible alien species but said that unlikely though he would check it out. He also noted that the other case seemed to be unrelated.

Sometime later Moroboshi left the two to get food at some benches. As Jack munched down on local cuisine he talked with Shinjiro who he noticed had a lot on his mind. During their conversation, Jack noted that he knew Shinjiro's father, Shin had helped in the past. Before he could finish his conversation the two were interrupted by a large alien. Jack introduced the alien as Red, the former champion of the arena before Jack defeated him. Despite his prior victory, Jack set up the unassuming Shinjiro to fight Red, resulting in him being punched several blocks away. As Shinjiro stood up he was now angry and ready for a fight.

Shinjiro retaliated against Red, throwing a punch only for it to be caught and be thrown away, with his superhuman body he landed on a pillar and jumped back but Red dodged. Red then leaped into the air at Shinjiro who dodged and noted that he may have killed him. He again charged at Red but then remembered that the maneuver he was trying to use required his suit. Before they could clash Moroboshi stopped their fight, even Red was not going to fight an ally of the SSSP.

Outside the building, Shinjiro thanked Moroboshi for taking him to see that place, but Moroboshi rebuffed him, stating his dislike for him and how he thought poorly of Shinjiro as Ultraman. He also stated that he was not the only one who could become Ultraman.

Later on, Shinjiro was on a mission to capture a petty crook alien who had killed several people. Moroboshi was there along with an extermination team, while Shinjiro easily defeated the crook, he spared the alien upon his pleas of mercy. Afterward, Moroboshi came to quarrel with Shinjiro and his refusal to kill resulting in Shinjiro throwing his helmet past Moroboshi's head in anger.

Shinjiro later began to cling to his normal life, going out with his friends and trying to forget about his issues as Ultraman and his internal conflict between Moroboshi's words and his own kind heart. However, despite his attempts, he could not shake his feelings of anxiety and uncertainty.

It was upon the return home that Shin called his son into the living room to speak with him alone. There the two men spoke of their dislike of killing. Shin explained that the Earth needed Shinjiro right now and that the power he had inherited was, in the end, a curse they both had to bear.

Later both Hayatas returned to HQ to find Moroboshi in an Ultraman Suit, who restated his early remark that Shinjiro was 'not the only one who could be Ultraman'. Sometime afterward Shinjiro went on a walk and thought about the current events, his father's and Moroboshi's statements about Ultraman, his reasons for being Ultraman, he was unsure of what to do. It was then he caught a little girl's balloon and upon returning it to her remembered Alien Adacic's victims, among whom were children, it was then he gained a new resolve. No sooner after Ide called him about a situation, stating Moroboshi was busy. Shinjiro rushed to get his suit from a nearby van and proceeded to the scene.

There he found people running and was surprised to see that Jack and Red were the cause of the commotion. To his surprise, Red took out some sort of vial and transformed before him. Red returned to his original size and fought Shinjiro, who despite everything could not best the giant, even asking for the limiter to be removed. When Red threw him at the same mother and child he met earlier, Shinjiro, desperate to save them awakened the ability to fly. Using his new-found ability, Shinjiro prepared to fight Red until Jack stopped the fight due to Red not being able to fight properly anymore.

After the fight, he contemplated his power and what would happen next to him. He was then seen after being notified of the next mission. He met up with Moroboshi and questioned his methods. Their conversation took a tense turn when Moroboshi once more brought up that Shinjiro wasn't the only one who could become Ultraman. Nevertheless, they had to sortie for their next mission, which was at Rena Sayama's concert. Donning their Ultraman Suits, the two waited on the roof until their target showed up, fighting Agent Adad while interrupting the concert. Struggling against him, the situation was made even worse when Bemular appeared, challenging Shinjiro, but told him that he was "about to become Ultraman", confusing him even more. When Rena interrupted their battle, Adad took the chance to hold her at knifepoint, prompting Alien Igaru to appear and transform into his true form. Now that his target had appeared, Adad stopped the battle to expose his crimes to the public. Shinjiro wanted to attack them, but Moroboshi stopped him and said that he wants to listen to his explanation while Bemular leaves. Shinjiro tries to revive Pigmon, who had been executed by Adad after his explanation. The two Ultramen are ordered to take their leave after Adad introduces himself as an agent for the Star Cluster Alliance.

At school, Shinjiro met someone named Seiji Hokuto, who introduced himself as Shinjiro's junior, before revealing that he knows that he is Ultraman. He meets up with Jack and Red to discuss the situation and is told that he needs to prepare for some sort of demand from him.

Shinjiro saw Rena Sayama while closing the Giant of Light Memorial's doors for the day, but only recognized her after she leaves. While on the way back from school, he met with Seiji again. Seiji hacks into his phone when Shinjiro received a call Ide telling him about a Biological Weapon rampaging at a warehouse. He struggled against the beast until he was saved by a new Ultraman who had recently appeared in the news, and suspected it was Seiji from something he had said. While he was thinking about the encounter, Rena Sayama approached Shinjiro in the Giant of Light Memorial, asking if Ultraman was around. Shinjiro managed to evade the situation because of a phone call from Ide and told her that he would look into Ultraman for her. Arriving at an empty train station, Shinjiro and Moroboshi encountered a decapitated monster, who had been killed by Seiji Hokuto. He revealed his identity to the two Ultramen and asked to join the SSSP. After that Shinjiro goes home to talk to his father about the situation. Shin reassured that it wasn't Shinjiro's fault that he got found out and shouldn't blame himself. Soon after, Shinjiro met up with Rena again but talked to her outside due to Moroboshi's presence. He saw two-man falling off a swing stage and had to rescue them by using his image simulator to impose the Ultraman Suit's image over him. Afterwards, he received a call from Edo.

Shinjiro confronted Seiji after seeing him blackmail a fraud for money, getting into an argument that culminated in a battle. Shinjiro had to use his image simulator again, but they were interrupted by Moroboshi, who bested Seiji and revealed that he was not a human.

Ide shows Shinjiro new footage of the airplane incident, revealing to him that Seiji and his family were on the plane, which causes him to become lost in his thoughts. Jack and Red talk to him but he had to move out after the SSSP interrogate Yapool, finding the location of the Ace Killer Squad. He was told to stay back but forgot his orders when the mansion they were raiding exploded, severely injuring Moroboshi. The Ace Killer Squad appears, ambushing them. Ace Killer repeatedly shoots Shinjiro and has Alien Nepenthes bind them to lure out Seiji, who appears shortly. Shinjiro's Ultraman Suit is damaged in the process. Seiji is unable to keep up with Ace Killer but manages to free Shinjiro and Moroboshi. After dealing with the henchmen, Moroboshi is escorted off the battlefield by Jack. Red and Shin, wearing the Convenience Type Protosuit with a mask on, help Shinjiro deal with Nepenthes and Alien Woovelve. However, Shinjiro once again bound by Nepenthes' vines. Helpless, Shinjiro could do nothing but watch as Seiji gets badly beaten by Ace Killer. Enraged, Shinjiro found the strength to release the Limiter under his power and killed Nepenthes with a Spacium Beam that he fires with his power, while Seiji eventually blasted Ace Killer's head off.

After the battle, Bemular appears. Shinjiro prepared to fight Bemular once more, but the alien said that would not be necessary as Shinjiro has fully "awakened". He left with Seiji, saying it would not be the first time he saved a human life. Shinjiro trusts him with Seiji's life. Afterwards, Shinjiro met with Rena again and was given a ticket to her next concert as a thank you gift for "calling Ultraman". He had a confrontation with her father Yosuke Endo, who claimed that the SSSP's Ultraman was a mere fake that couldn't protect the world. Shinjiro almost blows his cover while trying to stand up for himself.

Three months later, Shinjiro's Ultraman Suit gets upgraded based on Yapool's technology, though he had trouble learning to fly with the back thrusters. Rena invites him out to tell him that her concert had been cancelled because of what happened at the previous one and she was going to America the next day. Shinjiro blames his indecisiveness from back then.

After the Star of Darkness make their presence known, Shinjiro is dispatched to New York where they were operating, and is informed about Moroboshi's brother. He gets sent there through one of the many portals in the alien city. The Star of Darkness says that they had spread their drugs throughout the city and the effects would start soon, making the SSSP consider what would happen to Shinjiro.

When the Golden Fortress nearly toppled a building, Shinjiro had to hold it up by himself, but fortunately, Bemular and Seiji arrived in time to help him while Moroboshi destroyed the giant robot with his new weapons. With the Golden Fortress out of the way, the Ultramen found themselves fighting against the Star of Darkness. Shinjiro and his father battled the alien who had four arms and swords and helped Rena and a few civilians escape from the Star of Darkness' troopers. When only the leader was left, they had no choice but to finish him off after he transformed using the drugs and revealed that there was a mole among them. Shinjiro, his father and Bemular ended him by firing their Spacium Beams. With the battle concluded, Shinjiro finally learned of Bemular's true identity from his father.

Soon, the Star Cluster Alliance decided to make the presence of aliens known to the public, and explained their presence on the Earth was because the Land of Light's Plasma Spark had gone out of control and exploded, causing the universe to shrink as a result, and that they had planned to use the Earth as a mothership to travel into another universe. At the time, Shinjiro was at the alien city where the built up tension from aliens living as second-rate citizens had reached a breaking point, causing them to target Shinjiro, who was a human who also carried Ultraman's genes. He and Red fended them off until Ide managed to get Shinjiro's B-Type suit to him, by copying the Ace Suit's teleportation function with Yapool's help. Shinjiro quelled the crowd, and was immediately dispatched to Hong Kong, where the Leo Brothers were fighting Adad. He arrived just in time to see the brothers defeated by Moroboshi, but the Star Cluster Council unleashed Nova on them, using its tentacles and eye beams to attack and its red gas to cause the Ultraman Suits to malfunction. Still, Shinjiro, Moroboshi, Adad and the Leo Brothers teamed up on the beast and managed to destroy it by blasting its head with a Spacium Beam.

Some time later, Shinjiro and the others learned from the Leo Brothers that the Space Contraction Phenomenon was actually just a lie to cover up the Star Cluster Alliance's true plan, and that Ultraman and his race may not be what they appear to be; in the perspective of other races, the Ultras actively carried out genocide to impose their sense of order, which slightly shook Shinjiro's beliefs. Shinjiro met up with Rena again after she returned from America. She told him about an incident where a building landed on her, but she and the surrounding people were unhurt despite nobody being around to help them, suspecting she has some kind of superpower. Shinjiro caught a glimpse of the back of Rena's hand shining as she talked about it, but was unsure of what really was going on.

He was then tasked with meeting up with Moroboshi for a talk, but found himself knocked out and strapped to a table with the real Moroboshi, and his father, trapped there beside him. Ambassador Mephisto revealed his true form to them and Shin discerned that they had been fooled by Alien Zarab impostors, leading to their capture. They were made to witness the Zarabs posing as Ultramen and attacking the city to bring down their reputation, until Edo arrived and demanded Mephisto to stop whatever he was doing, using his authority as the Supreme Chancellor of the Star Cluster Council to do so.
