Stats Discussion (for everyone capable to edit characters)

Created by blackestbrightestday, 2 y 6 mo 24 d ago.

Hi all, I just want to be frank here, the stats are all a mess and inconsistent. We have Batman's speed at 50, while both Nightwing and Captain America at just 20. And if you see, Batman and Superman's stats are re-edited almost every week. We have a lot of editors here and we don't have any coordination and similar measurement/standard at all. New visitors will be confused when reading and comparing the stats since there are no set standard and consistency, and our goal as editors should be helping the site to grow. I made this page so that we can discuss everything related to editing characters, especially in deciding the stats for popular characters, like Batman, Superman, Captain America, Spider-Man, etc. We don't need to re-edit other's work and then, have the character to be re-edited again by the other the week after, and re-edited again, and again, and again, anymore. So, let's set our ego aside and work together as a team.

@Galactus . If you edit one character from each level (batman for humans, spider-man for low power superhero, superman for high power and galactus for cosmic) , It could be a good sample for all editors.

It's composite of travel reaction and combat.

It's full body movement speed now. Including; running, jumping, flying, gliding, swinging, etc.

I can see E. Honda (Street Fighter) maybe having a higher speed. Characters like that could be an exeption.

Guys, I want to suggest if we decide popular characters' stats together, so that it would not be re-edited constantly. We don't have to discuss every character's stats, just the popular ones. This way, we can easily decide other character's stats by making comparison to these characters. What do you think?

It is clear that all editors and mods want to do their best but for now, the accuracy of the edit is not as important as the number of characters edited(Especially for editors).
Galactus has added a number of editors to edit more characters, and this is exactly what I asked you not to re-edit characters that have already received version 2 and focus on new characters.
In general, there is always disagreement, no matter how much we agree now, there is still someone believes in a different way. I'm not saying do not continue this discussion but do not rely too much on it because I do not think this access to all characters is permanent for all editors and after that this is mods and heralds job to balance all editing.
PS. English is not my native language. Sorry for all the grammatical mistakes.

@Ezio Fair enough. But if I'd say, even before V2 and before all editors started to have access to all characters, the stats were still inconsistent (except all that are edited by Galactus obviously). I just think having discussion like this would make it more consistent. To be honest, I am sick of seeing characters like Batman or Superman re-edited too often. They should be edited once and probably can only be re-edited annually (once a year). Just imagine yourself to be a new visitor, what would you feel to see all this (character stats are changed every week, inconsistent standard in stats, etc.)?

No Problem. English is not my native language as well.

I agree that we do not need a single method, but not for now.You have an opinion in your mind, but when you start editing, other ideas come to your mind. That's why I'm waiting to see the work of all the editors. Just look at characters Holyjoe has updated in his own way these past few days and I have not seen lordtracer updates yet. So let all the editors do their job and we see their work then then we agree on a method

If everyone sticks to the benchmarks, there shouldn't be (much) inconsistency. That's what the benchmarks are for, a guideline.
The stats you enter should be based on 'facts'. Those could still be open for interpretation, I know.

I don't think the speed in stats is for combat. It's for travel. Well by adding travel speed one could easily understand combat speed as well. Heros with no super speed can fight really fast. But that isn't their speed

It was the average speed of movement and attack but It seems Galactus have changed it to full body movement speed.

Yeah. It was a combination of both, but I didn't mean 50/50 combination. So, to make it clear, I removed combat speed/reaction time. I don't think Batman should have 1000x speed of sound for instance.

"...since there are no set standard ..."
Intelligence is in IQ
Strength is in kg/lb lifting strength
Speed is movement speed in meters per second
The other three stats have set benchmarks.

All of them are always open for interpretation, you can never remove that completely.

Batman's speed at 50 is ridiculous. That's 1000x the speed of sound.

Yeah, I tried to follow that. But, some stats I saw in this site don't follow that logic

I just think we all should discuss it together so that we can have similar measurement and standard in how to decide the stats. There are other striking differences in the stats between similar-powered characters if you try to look at some, especially street level characters.

Let's start by making a standard for street-level characters' stats. Do you agree if we set the speed for street-level characters only up to (around) 15? We don't need large number for human's speed as it is mostly insignificant compared to superhumans or characters with enhanced speed. This way, we can reserve more number for the speed for superhumans.

Speed is supposed to be composite of combat and travel.15 is good but there could be exceptions

@RajinKabir @Jongensoden Yeah, well... I don't think even the fastest attacking speed is faster than the fastest speed a car could travel. So putting in 36 (or 20 in the final result) for the speed is not reasonable (in my opinion). I just want to suggest setting human's (without any enhancement) speed up to around 15 or 20 (maybe) at max. How about if we also decide the speed for Batman, and set him as the base to help us decide other street-level character's speed? Like, if we put Batman's speed at 13, we can then put Nightwing at somewhere close to that but a little bit higher, since he is faster and more agile, that is probably at 15.

@Ezio I'm not active on Discord. Well, if I continue the discussion there, can I make a new topic under website to talk about these things?
