Rebecca Marchand's History

The daughter of Michael Marchand and Alison Jones, Rebecca inherited a genetic defect from her father's side of the family, which caused her mother to die in childbirth and, later in life, made Rebecca unable to walk. Rebecca was 16 years old when she met her aunt Jessica Drew.

Despite her physical handicap, Rebecca was extremely intelligent and she started attending college before her 15th birthday. For her 16th birthday party, her father hired Spider-Woman (Jessica Drew) to act as a bodyguard. Unbeknownst to Jess, however, she was actually Michael's sister and he actually wanted her help in finding a cure for Rebecca. As some mercenaries sought to kidnap Rebecca for ransom and raided her sixteenth birthday yacht party, she witnessed Spider-Woman (actually her aunt Jessica Drew) fight them off to save her. Although captured soon after, Rebecca stalled her abduction by chastising the leader for not knowing about her immobility. Stalling her abductors long enough allowed Spider-Woman to down their helicopter and stop their threat. After the physical exertion of saving Rebecca, Spider-Woman fell over in pain from an oncoming illness. While thankful for her rescue, Rebecca grew concerned over her hero's immediate illness and need of medical attention.

Following Spider-Woman's time assisting Michael, Rebecca thanked her for keeping her safe. After the building came under assault, Rebecca was momentarily held hostage by her father's doctor until Spider-Woman saved her and they escaped to her father's private jet. While in the air, Rebecca opened up about feeling other people's pity for her situation, wanting only a regular teenage life. After Spider-Woman's evasion of missile fire and an attack by dinosaur men, Rebecca demanded her father admit their true destination to a suspicious and enraged Spider-Woman, Wundagore Mountain. There, Rebecca was ecstatic to see her grandmother again, Miriam Drew, who explained to Jessica Drew all the details regarding her secret family. After the mountain was laid siege by Octavia Vermis, Rebecca aided in the defense before escaping.

After Jessica handed Michael a copy of the cure array file, he tested it on his secretary (and lover), Rose Roché, granting her spider powers similar to Jess. But the medical information was promptly corrupted by a fail-safe on their floppy disk that destroyed all data. To recover the data, Rose hired mercenaries to recover the original file, but Jessica found out and confronted Michael to learn the truth. Jess returned afterwards as Spider-Woman to destroy the machine, but Michael used the array on himself with his serum as a catalyst. Developing his own set of spider powers, Michael became vehemently aggressive towards Jess, overpowering her and blaming his woes in life on her. Despite Rebecca's arrival pleading mercy, he ignored her and renamed himself Aeturnum.

With her pheromone powers, Rose then mind-controlled Jess to take Rebecca and fly a helicopter rigged to explode, but Rebecca snapped out of her trance and woke Jess, who immediately kicked the helicopter's door and jumped with her niece. After reuniting with Jessica's son, Gerry, Rebecca took Jess to the Empire State University, where she studied, and suited up, demanding Jess to help her get her father back. The duo sneaked into Michael's company again to retrieve a de-powering serum, but were confronted by Rose and Michael, the latter still blinded by the serum's effects. Aeturnum fought Spider-Woman while Rose handled Rebecca, and the heroic pair were victorious once Spider-Woman rendered Aeturnum unconscious and Rebecca successfully removed Rose's powers. As company security took Michael and Rose into custody, Rebecca told Michael she'd leave him funding in his bank account to get as far away from her as possible, while swearing retaliation should Jessica or Gerry be attacked again. Afterwards, she revealed to Jessica that she planned to take over the company to make up for everything her father had done.

While outwardly engaging among her friends and peers, Rebecca internally feels hurt by feeling their pity for her situation. When under duress, Rebecca keeps her composure and continues with a level head, such as she showed in her birthday kidnapping attempt or during Octavia Vermis assault on the Wundagore Mountain. Rebecca's favorite superhero is Captain Marvel and at her birthday party she had both a Captain Marvel costume and an ice sculpture.
