@ThorMathews So I guess its not that comics aren't dark anymore its that you want to see Thor do more of that. And he kind of has been. He ripped Galactus's fingers off and broke Knull's jaw clean off. He's been very violent

@Tyrannus yes I am liking that cates is keeping him in that direction, I hope he stays that way. I like that Immortal Hulk is darker as well.

The ultimates also has a lot of bad writing. It's not cuz it's dark. I think they should just make a few characters darker. Like you don't have to make spidey crazy dark

It started out well enough, but after a while it got stuck in the corner of killing off all the villains and getting stuck into a corner of creativity. I think darker stories are generally left to limited series or one offs due to their general nature to run out of established characters quickly. They burn bright and quick, although a few characters can manage it like Batman and Punisher.

@vonKonigsberg that's literally the reason Batman has a no kill rule is so they can keep the Joker around lol. They just have to write stories in a way where the villain gets off somehow. For example if you kill me someone you love does. There's ways to get around a brutal character that kills. Batman to me isn't that dark because he won't kill.

There are plenty of stories like that, especially for characters like the Punisher. There is that niche, but from my experience reading The Boys, brutal killings over and over again just gets really boring. And also that ultra violence niche is much smaller than you think.

Have you read Judge Dredd or Mike Mignola's work? Plenty of brutalities there. Its out there, you just have to look.

@vonKonigsberg I'd like to see more brutality from characters that are above street level. For example Sentry ripping Ares in half. And Thor doing this

Thor's a viking god. He should be more brutal. He's more brutal than a lot of heroes but I want more. With Superman I'm more saying for the fights. Like people die in brutal ways when super powered beings fight, and Superman can't save em all and it doesn't make sense for all bystanders to be okay.

Thor is a Norse god. Viking was a profession, not a people. Anyways, he's only loosely based on that mythology at this point, what with him fighting space monsters and all the other crap Jason Aaron comes up with. And if he just started murdering every villain he came into contact with, he'd run out of villains real quick.

When I read a Superman story, I'm not super interested in seeing people impaled on rebar or something like that. He's a symbol of hope and it doesn't make thematic sense to have civilians actively shown dead in his books.

@vonKonigsberg I'm aware. I'm kind of a pagan. The gods of norse mythology encouraged war tho. That's why the vikings would go to valhalla if they died in battle. I know what a viking is of course they were raiders. I just said it that way to emphasize brutality of the norse gods. Who cares if he is "loosely" based. He can always be written closer to mythology. I appreciate cates implementing Thurisaz into Thors costume and I hope he can do more to honor Thor.

I mean sure you might not wanna see it. But it's much more realistic. But I guess Superman fans typically aren't looking for something hardcore.
