I wish comics were darker and more brutal

After watching Invincible I've realized that realistically when you have super powerful characters like Superman and Thor it would be a lot more brutal and gruesome than comics make it seem. Who else agrees? And who liked Invincible?

Also kills his own mother brutally
Thanos is wild boi
Thor and Superman have the power but the the personality to go round decapitating every opponent they come across. It'd be odd to see that kind of thing.

And, you have to realize that darker and grittier themes aren't appreciated by everyone and is more likely to drive off a larger audience. And I think DC has found a good way to balance having those darker stories with their Black Label imprint. Wonder Woman uses Superman's spine and skull as a weapon in Dead Earth, for example.
I also doubt Marvel will ever try to make their main universe darker. Look how that turned out with the Ultimates line.
Have you read Judge Dredd or Mike Mignola's work? Plenty of brutalities there. Its out there, you just have to look.
Superman and Thor are heroes who fight for the good. They wouldn't do anything gruesome. Plus Superman always holds back against everyone. Though Superman has done some gruesome things like ripping Doomsday in half.
When I read a Superman story, I'm not super interested in seeing people impaled on rebar or something like that. He's a symbol of hope and it doesn't make thematic sense to have civilians actively shown dead in his books.
I mean sure you might not wanna see it. But it's much more realistic. But I guess Superman fans typically aren't looking for something hardcore.
