I’ve seen a lot of people say some characters are weaker than others,but does that make them less compelling?

It really shouldn't but then again a lot of people don't like to see their favourite character lose.
However having a good character still trumps power. We've seen before when writers try to introduce characters they think we'll like just because they're powerful The Sentry, Captain Marvel in the MCU and Rey were shown as being really powerful but fans still rejected them for lack of character (even though I believed Sentry had great character).

There are weak characters that are trash and there are strong characters that are trash.
It depends on the taste of each person.
