What if the Pumpkin seeds we are collecting turns into score.

The user score is about your contribution to the website, things you've added.
The pumpkin hunt was just a fun thing that doesn't add anything to the website. But for your effort you got a nice award and an extra OC slot.

Future seasons might get you points depending on what the season is about.
