History

Orphaned at an early age he was sent to a children's home with his brother Bernard. Running away to join a travelling circus, the pair worked as roustabouts. While a member of the circus, Hawkeye was trained by the original Swordsman and Trickshot.

Hawkeye has been an active member of the Avengers for years, with his archery skills augmenting the superhuman powers of his associates. For a short time, Barton abandoned his Hawkeye identity, and taking Henry Pym's growth serum, operated under the name Goliath. He resumed his Hawkeye identity soon after. He has frequently taken extended leaves of absence from the Avengers, trying to establish a career for himself outside of the group. He was once security chief for Cross Technological Enterprises.

Hawkeye met and eloped with fellow crimefighter Mockingbird during one of his leaves of absence from the Avengers. Upon his return, he was appointed the chairman of a second team of Avengers based on the West Coast by then chairman, the Vision. Hawkeye and Mockingbird lived in the new Avengers Compound outside Los Angeles and were the guiding force behind the new team.

After Mockingbird's death, Hawkeye became a solo agent for a considerable amount of time. After years fighting alongside the Avengers, Hawkeye offered to lead the Thunderbolts. Sympathetic to their plight as criminals trying to redeem their past actions, he decided to help them become a legitimate superhero team. He was also romantically involved with Moonstone (Karla Sofen). Eventually rejoining the Avengers, Clint was thought to have perished on an exploding Kree ship created by a crazed Scarlet Witch.

Recently, Hawkeye suddenly reappeared out of Cloak's shroud after Wanda Maximoff recreated the 616 universe by altering reality.

Powers & Abilities

Hawkeye has no superhuman powers, although he uses Pym particles to become Goliath on occasion. He possesses exceptional strength, endurance, and stamina. His reflexes and agility represent the absolute pinnacle of human perfection. He is capable of acrobatic maneuvers that would put an olympic gold medalist to shame. His accuracy as an archer is virtually unerring. He is also a highly competent strategist, tactician, and field commander. He is an exceptional hand-to-hand combatant having been trained by Captain America.

His primary weapons in crime-fighting are a long bow and an arsenal of 36 arrows carried in a back quiver. Half of them have either target or blade points, while the rest carry a wide variety of customized special heads; high explosive, acid, cable (for climbing or crossing gaps), webs and bolas (to entangle suspects), smoke and freeze arrows are just a few samples. For emergency use, Hawkeye has several spare arrowheads in his costume's belt and straps, enabling him to refit the target point arrows into Trick Arrows if need be.
